When we started writing this post, we began with what we thought was an amazing idea to create a list of “Good Wool Products” – a variety of commonly used wool items that are made with responsible wool from happy sheep. Who doesn’t enjoy the comfort of a cozy wool blanket, or a favourite hand knit sweater from nana, or slipping into a pair of wool slippers? We want to be able to enjoy all of the comfort and warmth of our favourite woolies, but not at the expense of our health, animal’s health, or the planet’s health.
To our extreme disappointment, the more we searched, the more learned about how gross and cruel conventional wool is, and how extremely rare ethical wool products really are.
A few months into the production of our wool dryer BaaLLS, we were thrilled to have met an amazing sheep farmer who truly loves and cares for her animals, and never treats any of their wool with chemicals. We knew from the beginning that her supply was limited, and that we wouldn’t be able to grow this brand to achieve enormous global sales, but that wasn’t the goal in the first place, so we knew what we had to do. We we’re going to keep making our BaaLLS by hand with organic wool from our new friend and her fuzzy friends.
We are dedicated to delivering the best we can, with all we know, and continuing to improve as we learn how to do better. Our BaaLLS are sold on store shelves next to conventional wool dryer balls that are a fraction of the cost, but we’re out to prove that people will go for what’s right, and truly valuable, especially once they know the truth. We’re proud that we lovingly hand make every one of our BaaLLS with certified organic, cruelty free wool, and felt them with a 100% plant based soap, in energy star appliances. Our goal for everything we do is simple – to provide refreshing ideas, superior service, and outstanding quality.
We hope to one day soon be able to post a list of “Good Wool Products,” and we would love your help and suggestions to do so. Tweet us your favourite ethical wool products and brands to @GetBaaLLS and use the hashtag #goodwool.
