Ok, among a very long growing list, I do not enjoy:
- balloons
- toxic food
- cancer-causing candles
- soda and plastic straws
- immense amounts of waste
And…that pretty much eliminates the average “fun” party and holiday celebrations.
People repeatedly question, criticize, joke and remark:
- Why can’t you just enjoy it? Look how happy they are (usually referring to their kids/my kids).
- The way you live really doesn’t allow you to enjoy anything!
And I would really like to be able to say:
- How could I possibly enjoy something that is bad for them, bad for me, bad for you, bad for our health and bad for our world? (It would require unknowing). And, if they are happy, isn’t it because they are misguided, and/or not understanding what the impact of what they are doing and consuming?
- I actually enjoy SO much more now that I’ve fully embraced living consciously. I REALLY appreciate a great bottle of wine…when it’s biodynamic and organic and local…I REALLY get excited when my organic garden sprouts and grows, and when I get to harvest my own food. I never enjoyed a great tasting leaf of organic spinach, or a warm, just-picked heirloom tomato, like I do now. I truly appreciate so many more little things, that I never did before when I was consumed with the “bigger” things. And, I TRULY appreciate and enjoy good people who share in my enthusiasm (and my outrage, too).
Try being a conventional KillJoy – it’s enjoyable, and you’ll be embracing what’s really fun, incredible and inspiring in life.
