So you’ve created your website and have decided to start a blog. Smart move; there are so many reasons a blog can support your business.
There are a million ways you can improve your blog, but we’ve narrowed it down to our top tips. Here are 7 things you should be doing for a thriving blog:
Think User-Friendly: You know when you’re trying to find something in a friend’s kitchen and their organization doesn’t seem to make sense? Your visitors are trying to navigate your blog without knowing where you’ve put everything. Keep things neat, keep things in intuitive places, and name your links clearly.
Promote Interaction: Make it easy for readers to leave comments on your posts, and to share your content on social media. This will help bring new people to your site (and we love making new friends).
Comment on other blogs: Do you ever read a great blog post and forget to comment? If you’re contributing to conversations on other industry blogs, you can establish credibility and increase traffic to your own site. You don’t need to promote your blog; simply try to add value to the conversation and establish yourself as thought-leader. DO make sure your comment links back to your blog.
Use the power of your social channels: Share your blog posts through all of your social channels (you may have very different audiences on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook). You spend time on each of these channels growing your audience, so don’t be afraid to use them!
Show your readers some love: Finding new readers is great, but never at the expense of your current audience. Show your readers that you’re listening to them by responding to comments on your blog and to social media mentions. Paying attention to your readers may even give you new ideas for what to write about.
Be consistent: Consistency is key when it comes to blog updates. It may help to draft a content calendar ahead of time to ensure you are posting regularly. When users know they can expect new content, they’re more likely to visit and much more likely to stay engaged.
Write like YOU: Seriously! Let your personality shine through. Write about what you love, write about topics you would want to read about, write how you speak, and write about what makes you different (it’s what makes us like you)!
Have fun sharing your deep knowledge and personality. You will be glad that you invested in your online presence, your business, and yourself!
