We believe that part of taste is feeling good about what you eat (we borrowed this line from Ryan Storm). What does that mean? It means that if you can trace your food back to where it came from, and you can feel good about it, then enjoy! It is all about your own food rules… your connection to the food, and the good (or harm) it is doing, and how it makes you feel.
As Anne Wigmore says, ““The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” There are foods available for us that are immensely enjoyable AND good for our health and the world. If you know that food is harming you and the world, why would you still choose to eat it?
People often say to us, “I don’t know how you do it, it’s so hard”… but it’s simply a choice we make and the effort and rewards actually make us feel really good about what we are doing for the greater good and for ourselves, too. Change is change and at first it can be uncomfortable… doing something new and different can sometimes feel complicated, but we’re actually simplifying things. There are “good foods” that can satisfy all of our needs and we never feel restricted… in fact, we feel empowered, purposeful, and energized.
As we reflect on our summers, and fall back into our routines, let’s all try and focus more on how we nourish ourselves… we hope that the links we share in our roundup offer you a little food for thought.
