Right now is the time to really invest in what you want more of in this world… your world! Every dollar we spend is a vote, but so is a like or a comment or a share. On the other side of the curve, what businesses do you want to be there for you? Support them now… whether they are open, or waiting anxiously or pivoting, there are so many ways to back them that won’t cost you a penny… but will make a world of a difference to them, and to all of us. Don’t underestimate the impact your connection/outreach/purchase/promotion/ support can have on a small business entrepreneur’s resilience.
Even while we are staying safe at home, we still need to nourish ourselves and can shop virtually and gift to others applying Empathy Economics. And while you’re home and online, make your scroll time purposeful by writing reviews, engaging, and sharing your favourite small businesses… connection and support comes in many ways.
If you are working out or learning with someone, spending time in private communities or shopping, take a moment to support these people/brands/communities by letting them know that what they are doing matters to you … in words and in action! Tell 3 friends. We share complaints so quickly, why not be as quick to voice the good?!
Buying a product or retaining a service is an obvious way to support a friend or family member’s business, or a company you admire, but there are other ways to offer your support without making a purchase.
We’re fortunate to meet, work with, and cross paths with so many incredible people doing great things, and whenever we tell others about their inspiring stories and work, they get excited too (good energy is contagious!).
Social sharing and digital communication is something we believe in very much. Not only is it a service we teach and offer support for, it’s also a powerful tool we can all use to support our friends, near and far, who are doing good.
Follow their social profiles. Whichever social media platforms you enjoy browsing and engaging on, search for the business you want to support and like or follow their page. Once you’re connected, you will see their new posts and can stay in touch (and support further) easily.
Like their posts. If you enjoyed the content they’ve shared or found it interesting, like the post! When you give a like, not only is it kind, but the content also appears for your friends and followers which helps increase exposure.
Leave a comment. Social media is meant to be used for connection and communication. If you have something to say, say it!
Re-share their content. If you find something interesting, it’s likely (at least some of) your friends and family might be interested too!
Tag a friend. Know someone who might also find a post interesting? Tag them in the comments so they can see it too! Making a great connection leaves both sides very grateful.
Write a review. If you have used a company’s product or service before, tell others about it online. Many people do research online before making a purchase and would appreciate to hear about your experience.
Sign up for their newsletter. If you like what they’re sharing socially, you’ll likely also appreciate the content they write and distribute through their email newsletter.(By the way, have you signed up for our monthly roundup?)
Follow their blog. Another sign of your support, plus you might learn something too! (We hope you enjoyed this post, thanks for reading!).
It is straightforward for me to be ethical, responsible, and kind-hearted because I have the resources to support that. – Edward Tufte
