Are you sleeping on a healthy pillow? Choosing the right pillow can certainly support you in getting sound sleep and to feel good waking up in the morning. But…
Not All Pillows Are Created Equal.
What you sleep on matters! When shopping for pillows (and pillow cases!), we often consider the size, firmness, how they flow with our bedroom décor, and how they influence our body’s alignment … but what about what they are made of? What chemicals might be disrupting your body’s function? You don’t want to be sleeping on synthetics and flame retardants, like BFRs, brominated flame retardants … and these are allowed in pillows on the market!
You don’t knowingly sleep with chemicals that make things more fireproof and are super toxic (neurotoxic), right? What are we even doing using a chemical that is toxic to our brain (and body and soul) in production? Why is this allowed? These flame retardants have been found in pillows, computers, appliances, couches, and even mattresses … alarming!
As Annie Leonard states in The Story of Stuff, “We take our pillows, we douse them in a neurotoxin and then we bring them home and put our heads on them for 8 hours a night to sleep. Now, I don’t know, but it seems to me that in this country with so much potential, we could think of a better way to stop our heads from catching on fire at night.”
