We fill our pots, bathtubs, sport bottles, and swimming pools with it. We wash the car, our pets, our bodies, and the dishes with it. We use it in manufacturing, and rely on it for power. It’s essential for life, but it’s obvious from the way we treat our water that we don’t appreciate the vital importance of it. There’s no more time or water to waste.
It’s crucial that we take care and conserve, like turning the tap off while you brush your teeth (do you flush the toilet the whole time you are sitting down?). However, I’m writing this to splash attention on the fact that we are taking swigs of, and showering with, things like rocket fuel, medications, weed killer, and Teflon in our water. Everything poured down our kitchen sinks, bathroom drains, and flushed down our toilets may be out of sight, but unfortunately, it’s not out of our world. There are lots of ways we can take care of ourselves and the planet better … we can also support businesses and organizations who are working against toxics and for human health.
As with the most successful recovery programs, if we admit we have a problem, explore solutions and opportunities, together we can set out on a course of action for reform. Hoping that clicking through this month’s roundup inspires you to make a few different decisions in your life (and work!). Everything matters and we are better together!
