Every week we feature a good human from TWIC. This week’s member highlight is Harriet Shugarman … Harriet has worn many hats over the course of her life … far too many to list in this introduction, but you will gain some beautiful insight into Harriet in our interview. She is an award winning author, university professor, Climate Educator, Policy Analyst, and Climate Activist. She is known as “Climate Mama” for good reason. Over her lifetime, Harriet has spent most of her career working as a policy analyst and economist but has also been a ski instructor in Western Canada, an orchard worker in Israel, and even a member of her college sky diving club … most importantly she is a fiercely protective, relentless soul who has kind, soft edges. Harriet’s 2020 book: “Talking to Your Kids About Climate Change, Turning Angst to Action” has garnered 3 national book awards. I was honoured to be asked to contribute a few sentences. I have been connected to Harriet and her work for many years … it is a privilege and honour to know her and call her a friend in this wild world. She lives by the Climate Mama motto: “Tell the truth, actions speak louder than words, and don’t be afraid.” Amen.
