I have been asked a number of times how I choose members to be interviewed … and the easiest answer, as is often the answer, “it depends!” Sometimes it’s a client who I am supporting to tell their story, sometimes it’s a friend, sometimes it’s someone that I’ve never met but has impacted me, sometimes it’s a purpose driven entrepreneur that I want to give more voice to, sometimes it’s a human who I believe we need to hear from, and sometimes a member asks me for the opportunity. Sometimes, it’s a blend of many of these things!
I started conducting these written interviews in 2003 when I recognized how much so many of my clients (and myself!) struggle with speaking about themselves as we wrote their “about me” page on a website. These pages were so often the words to sell who we are and read like an inflated bio … I wanted to bring out the unique story … the “why” it was a good idea to get to know and work with the person/team. The interviews were an exercise in discovering … a process. But then … THEY WERE SO INTERESTING that I started to ask permission to share them on my “unblog”. I called the series, “Interviews With Mosquitos” … the green mosquito being my mascot in life and work (you can read more about that here, if you wish).
The response was amazing … it wasn’t about eyeballs and numbers and metrics on my website, it was the thrill of being trusted to ask and share personal stories. Even when about business, the human factor is what shines.
When I created and opened The Wellness Intelligence Collective (TWIC) in 2021, I recognized the opportunity to share in here and have been doing so weekly.
