This is an {un}blog, and not really a blog (because I never really do anything completely conventionally), but I certainly do have a lot to say and share (for those of you who know me, you did not need me to spell this out). I’m SO fortunate to be able to connect with people, products, and ideas that I find incredibly inspiring every day, and I hope to use this virtual space to give you an inside look into what’s going on in my (crazy) world…which, I share with you.

Along with my small but mighty team, we will be posting content under 3 main departments, and encourage you to share with us as well. If something excites or outrages you, if you have a product or service that we should know about, or should you have any comments, complaints, criticisms or compliments please be in touch.

Our Stories

Going with the Good

When we started writing this post, we began with what we thought was an amazing idea to create a list of “Good Wool Products” – a variety of commonly used wool items that are made with responsible wool from happy sheep.  Who doesn’t enjoy the comfort of a cozy wool blanket, or a favourite hand knit sweater from nana, or slipping into a pair of wool slippers? We want to be able to enjoy all of the comfort and warmth of our favourite woolies, but not at the expense of our health, animal’s health, or the planet’s health.

IWM : Marni Wasserman

We spoke with Marni Wasserman, a plant based culinary nutritionist who’s serving up delicious knowledge. She knows good food and makes everyday healthy eating simple and delicious. We found out what you need to drink to maximize your workout, where to get a delicious escape, and about her new cooking studio that everyone seems to be talking about.

Let’s get this year started!

Instead of a resolution (or 10), let’s make 2013 all about accomplishing as much as we can, on our own terms. Don’t worry about future goals as much as this actual moment, and now THIS actual moment, and now THIS actual moment….you get it.You can make change, personally and/or professionally – for yourself, for your family or widely in your community and beyond. Once you get started, action and change will surely be your favourite addiction with the most incredible outcomes…short term, and long term.

Here’s how to get this year started…starting right now:

Drinks to Toast the Holidays

There’s nothing like a festive bev to snap us into the holiday spirit! Whether you’re a social drinker, a celebratory sipper, or just need a stiff one to get you through the holidays (without being stiff yourself!), we’ve got the spirit for you. If you’re a non-drinker, or a minor, don’t fret, we have something sweet for you to sip too! Raise a glass and celebrate life – and do it well.

IWM : Kym Klopp

We spoke with Kym Klopp, owner of EcoExistence in Toronto, a resourceful retailer of eco-friendly, green gifts and lifestyle goods. Kym knows saving the planet can seem a little intimidating, but believes together we can make a big difference (and we agree!). We found out how she deals with (and prevents) difficult customers in her store, what gifts are flying off her eco-shelves, and what the woman who has everything (eco) secretly hopes to be gifted this holiday season.

On Being a Killjoy

Ok, among a very long growing list, I do not enjoy:

  1. balloons
  2. toxic food
  3. cancer-causing candles
  4. soda and plastic straws
  5. immense amounts of waste

And…that pretty much eliminates the average “fun” party and holiday celebrations.

IWM : Sandra Rotholc

We spoke with Sandra Rotholc, individual, couple, and sex therapist. With 17 years of clinical experience, her practice focuses on marriage counseling, anxiety, depression, communication issues, balancing work/life, and specializes in working with individuals and couples regarding sexual desire issues, pain with intercourse, erectile dysfunction and sexual enrichment. We found out how this mom feels about talking to her sons about sex, what the sign on her forehead says, and what three full days of the deed did for her.

Etsy Shops to Shop

There’s a special bond that’s created when you buy something directly from the person who made it; that’s why we love farmers’ markets, The One of a Kind Show, and Etsy. Handmade items have a story, they’re conversation starters, and they make amazing gifts.

IWM : Graydon Moffat

We spoke with Graydon Moffat, creator of GRAYDON Clinical Luxury by Nature. We use and love her line of “crap free” holistic personal care products because she uses incredibly pure ingredients, her products are amazing (and actually work!), she’s local to Toronto, and she’s a great person. We found out how to simplify and save money on quality beauty care, the new fragrance that’s irresistible to men, and natural tips and tools to get the best night’s sleep.

How to Buy Less Stuff

Stuff. Where do we put it? When are we going to use that again? Where does it go when we no longer need it? Take a look to your left, and another to your right and check out how much stuff surrounds us, most of which we probably could do without. Buying less stuff means less clutter in your life and in the landfills, using fewer resources, and more money in your pocket; and who doesn’t want that?
