I don’t love using titles to define myself, so, here is the (very) short story of how Borden Communications came to be.
Having developed basic teaching and communication skills as a waterski instructor for kids over seven summers and having honed my design and marketing skills working for two years launching a new paint line for a major retailer, I realized that I needed to work on my own. I was a creative entrepreneur in my soul. I was determined to make a difference. There was a real niche for supporting and starting small businesses in 1994 … it was something new and had not yet been defined and I learned this as I tried to start my own. There was also a need (as there is now) for “better businesses” … ones with a higher purpose that operated on a strong foundation of morals and ethics.
Borden Communications and Design Inc. was born in November of 1994 in the corner of my one bedroom apartment, when I was 22 years old (photo above). No money, no partner, no business plan … just a degree in French and a commitment to over deliver on every promise, while maintaining a passion for the work at hand. I quickly layered on finding the joy in the journey, showing up even when things were hard, turning outrage and gaps into opportunity, and focusing on strong outcomes and success without compromise. When my daughter, my second child, was born in 2002 with health concerns (including serious allergies), this changed life (thankfully) … and I then recognized that I had to take this new (for me) knowledge into my work as well. Everything is connected. There was no un-knowing.
I started to question everything. And I mean everything. I deepened my commitment to results and to my clients, colleagues, and collaborators but not at any cost … with a sense of responsibility to a bottom line plus human and environmental health. What I now call Wellness Intelligence. I opened virtual “community centre”, The Wellness Intelligence Collective, in 2021 in order to create a social network where scrolling was good for you, where I could connect like-minded entrepreneurs and individuals with each other, and share my favourite things, practices, and people.
I have been creating the conditions for positive change and healthy outcomes for conscious people and brands for 30 years, and every day I strive to surpass my initial goals and devotion, dedication, determination and business ethics are, of course, still the cornerstone of my business. Borden Communications remains a small business, allowing me to actively collaborate and participate on all client sessions, programs, and projects. With efficiency, I deliver solutions that work and support humans world-wide to find success, evolve, and feel good.
Personally, I am known as a instigator with a big heart. I am known to be able to affect change. I am known for my integrity and authenticity, but mostly I am known to be relentless in the pursuit of results. I am recognized for my consistency, as a leader in ideas, and I’m proud of my long list of special projects.
I am married to my summer camp sweetheart and I am a mother to three incredible children. These four people are my everyday inspiration to continually seek out more innovative, more creative and simply better ways at doing the same thing. I am a self-declared Unconventional Idealist, Empathic Economist, eight-time published author, learner/unlearner, wannabe organic farmer, reiki master, natural movement enthusiast, self-care guide, dot connector, chocoholic, lifeaholic, and hopeaholic.
