OUR {UN}BLOG

This is an {un}blog, and not really a blog (because I never really do anything completely conventionally), but I certainly do have a lot to say and share (for those of you who know me, you did not need me to spell this out). I’m SO fortunate to be able to connect with people, products, and ideas that I find incredibly inspiring every day, and I hope to use this virtual space to give you an inside look into what’s going on in my (crazy) world…which, I share with you.

Along with my small but mighty team, we will be posting content under 3 main departments, and encourage you to share with us as well. If something excites or outrages you, if you have a product or service that we should know about, or should you have any comments, complaints, criticisms or compliments please be in touch.

The Power of WHY

Why did you get out of bed this morning?

Pinktober

It’s October—the leaves are changing colours, our front stoops showcase our orange pumpkins, the first frosts make our gardens white in the morning, and everywhere I look, virtually and in person, I see pink.

Despite the lovely pink ribbon, toxic ingredients are still polluting us. Maybe it’s just the cynic in me, but I think it should be common-sense that we can’t shop our way to a cure – (more…)

Gratitude and Appreciation: Connected yet different

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term gratitude means “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.” The term appreciation is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as “the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.”

Transitions

September was a transitional month in so many ways – the start of school (or back to work), cooler temperatures and shorter days, and, if you’re like us, we still long for our gardens, local food, the canopy of trees and water, and all else that flourishes in the summer. However, the transition into fall is also an ideal time to take stock of your life, set new goals and intentions, and do and live better. (It’s really always a good time to do this!) (more…)

IWM: Carolyn Cohen

We spoke with Carolyn Cohen, chef and owner of Delicious Dish Cooking School. We found out how to keep things simple and tasty in the kitchen, the most fun and delicious bridal shower, and the biggest roadblock to eating well (and the solution!).

Not All Pasta is Created Equal

How great is it to enjoy a hearty bowl of pasta? As a busy business owner, mom and wife, we stock a lot of noodles and jars of sauce because pasta is one of my family’s favourite fast-foods.

Not all pasta is created equal. (more…)

Our Halloween Roundup

Halloween produces more boos, eeks, screeches and ding-dongs than we should tolerate. In an attempt to make sure our kids don’t hate us, and our neighbours, family and friends don’t ridicule us (although some of us may be used to this by now – especially me), this post will provide you with useful resources and suggestions – hoping we can all together, inspire a less scary Halloween (since, boycotting the holiday altogether is a little ambitious and un-spirited – for this year anyway). Getting Back to It All

Labour Day is not only the final weekend of summer holidays, but it also signals new beginnings, or “happy middles” as we like to call them around here.  (more…)
